Parish Councillor vacancy
Do you want to help make decisions for the benefit of your community?
Can you represent the range of opinions of local people?
If you are over 18 and live or work in Fontwell you could be eligible to become a Parish Councillor. The Council is looking to fill one position.
Could you be that person?
We aim to represent the interests of the community, to deliver services to meet local needs, and to strive to improve the quality of life and local environment in the parish. Full Council meetings are held bi-monthly and you should be able to commit to attend most of these meetings. You do not need any prior experience of local government or politics, but have a keen interest in the local community.
You will have the opportunity to serve on one or more of the Council’s Planning, Finance & Legal and General Purposes committees. You are not expected to have all the solutions for the community but through experience and expanding your grasp of the role you will be better placed to deal with the range of issues that arise. As you benefit from training, gaining experience and building your confidence, you will have the personal satisfaction of knowing that you and the council have made a difference.
For an informal chat about the vacancy, the eligibility criteria and what the role entails, please contact Andy Peppler, see below. Alternatively, if you know an existing Councillor, please do talk with them about the opportunity.
Should you wish to be considered for the role, please write a statement (maximum 200 words) detailing who you are and why you would like to join the Council. Send it by email or post to the Parish Clerk by 20th October. You will then be invited to attend the Full Council meeting on 21st November.
Electors can also identify councillors and nominate candidates for election. The Council encourages people to vote at the next election in 2019 to elect councillors to represent their interests.
